We would like to take this opportunity
to tell you a little about our company.
|
T
& W Wines was formed 24 years ago by Trevor Hughes,
a hotelier by profession who found his interest
lay more and more in creating a remarkable wine
list for his restaurant, rather than on the running
of the hotel. So in 1977 he sold his shares and
T & W Wines was born. In the early days, the emphasis
was on old, fine and rare wines, and to look back
at some of the prices on those first lists is certainly
an eye-opener. 1968 Chateau d'Yquem at 6.85, 1947
Chateau Latour at 69.00 or the legendary 1931 Quinta
do Noval for 40.00. Oh, those were the days. |
At
the beginning of the '80s the direction began to
change. The business expanded and customers demanded
wines to drink everyday rather than just on special
occasions. Rather than take the easy option and
buy on the English market from other wine merchants,
we started visiting France. |
Twenty one years ago we opened our shop in Thetford,
and we have been delighted that so many restaurateurs
and private customers on our mailing list call
in. We have over 600 wines displayed as well
as a range of glasses and wine accessories,
many of which are antique. We are always willing
to give advice and help with the choice of
wines, or the laying down of a cellar. We also
hold regular tastings, many of which are hosted
by wine producers.
Our main office and despatch point are in Thetford
and normally Trevor Hughes is on hand to advise
in the shop.
